Qualification Description
You must have a licence before you do any residential building work in NSW that is valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials. This includes work involved in the erection of pre-fabricated metal-framed home additions and these structures:
- decks
- patios
- gazebos
- awnings
- porches
- verandahs
- pergolas
- screened or glass enclosures
- modular rooms
- carports
- garages
- workshops
- sheds
- other similar additions and structures, including any residential building work related to erecting such additions or structures.
A licence in the category of erection of prefabricated metal-framed home additions and structures does not allow you to erect pre-fabricated secondary dwellings such as granny flats.
Final Assessment Procedures
The assessment will take place at a site to be determined mutually. If you live in a region outside of the Sydney area, you may be charged. As part of the RPL assessment, you may be given practical construction scenarios to which you shall give an oral explanation as to how you will address these issues and resolve them in a professional yet controlled manner.
You will need to collate photos and Videos demonstrating all aspects of your fabrication experience and complete a resume demonstrating your fabrication skills.
Photographic and video evidence must be supplied.
Video evidence that BOT accepts has you explain how you do the task that is being asked in the unit of competency. BOT accepts that you may have the required skills and may not have videos of you doing it. But a video of you explaining how and why you do the task is a requirement
Recognition of Prior Learning
Depending on your experience we deliver via our online learning system via RPL
To be eligible for RPL you need 4 years’ experience in the fabricating Industry. RPL can be started at any time.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a combination of supplying evidence of previous work in the tiling sector with a competency conversation and practical demonstration to record and verify the information supplied. An assessor will need to validate the evidence supplied by you and you will also have the opportunity to demonstrate your competency across the selected units.
How is it delivered?
There are several pathways.

Best Option Training’s Statement of Attainment for Erection of Prefabricated Metal Framed Home Additions and Structures can be delivered by our online system with trainer support which can include mentoring depending on location. Site visits start after your complete enrolment including a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test and pay enrolment fee of $500.

- Documentary evidence of formal study. Certified copies of certificates and transcripts.
- Third-party reports from licenced or qualified industry experts.
- Evidence of previous projects you have completed.
- Written or oral challenge testing questions.
- Supporting photographic and video evidence and documentary of related work
- In all cases, the method used for training RPL will reflect the skills and knowledge for which RPL is being sought.
Presentation of the evidence is to be supplied for the following units that you have selected.
Any areas where you have not been able to provide adequate evidence to demonstrate competency, you will be required to complete the course units in which you have not demonstrated competency.
What do I get from it?
Upon successful completion participants receive a Statement of Attainment (SoA) from Best Option Training for SOA for Erection of Prefabricated Metal Framed Home Additions and Structures.

What do I need to bring?
- 100 points of identification
- A pen
- Closed footwear
- High visibility shirt or vest
- Students are required to have access to the internet and a computer with a webcam.
Photographic ID
For identification purposes we require:
- A colour copy of your Australian passport OR
- A colour copy of both sides of your Australian driver licence and either a colour copy of the front of your Medicare OR a colour copy of your Certificate of Evidence of Resident Status (CERS) if you are a permanent resident,
- A colour copy of your induction card (white card), and
