Course Description:
This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.
The course covers advanced tiling techniques, surface preparation, tile installation, grouting systems, and specialized tiling methods. Students will develop expertise in reading plans and specifications, using professional tiling tools and equipment, applying various tiling systems, and working with different substrates and finishing materials.
The qualification prepares learners for employment as wall and floor tilers across various sectors of the construction industry, including residential tiling, commercial building projects, bathroom and kitchen installations, and specialized decorative tiling applications. The units integrate workplace health and safety requirements, environmental considerations, quality standards, and sustainable work practices throughout all aspects of wall and floor tiling work.

Learner Requirements:
- Possess a minimum LLN level mapped to ACSF 2
- Learners must hold a valid White Card (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) to be accepted into this course.
- Have access to their own computer/laptop or device fitted with a camera (this will be used to verify identity when undertaking the course online)
- Be physically fit to the level required to complete the practical tasks associated with the course.

- Access to appropriate tools, equipment and workplace
To be considered for RPL assessment, in addition to the above, 1 minimum of 3 years demonstrated work experience in a related field is required.
Course Structure:
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in:
20 units of competency:
17 core units
3 elective units.
Electives must be selected as follows:
- all three units from the electives listed below, or
- two units from the electives listed below, plus one unit selected from any current training package or accredited course as long as it contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome, maintains the integrity of the AQF level of this qualification and does not duplicate the outcome of another unit used to achieve this qualification.

Assessment Requirements:
Assessment for this qualification is conducted in accordance with the training package guidelines and industry standards. Students may be assessed through a combination of the following methods:
- Practical demonstrations – showing skills in a simulated or real construction environment
- Written assessments – including short answer questions, case studies, and workbooks
- Oral questioning – to confirm knowledge and understanding
- Projects and assignments – based on realistic workplace scenarios
- Workplace observation – where applicable (e.g. if placement or site visits are used)
Assessments are designed to be:
- Competency-based – students must demonstrate that they can perform to the standard required in the workplace
- Aligned with units of competency – covering both knowledge and performance evidence as per the CPC Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package
All assessment tasks must be:
- Completed in full
- Submitted within specified timeframes
- Conducted under the supervision of a qualified trainer/assessor
Students must demonstrate competency across all core and elective units before qualification completion can be awarded.
