Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential work health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. The qualification is built around a basic construction project unit that integrates the skills and embeds the facets of employability skills in context.
The course is suited to vocational education and training (VET) learners with no previous connection to the construction industry or relevant employment history.
The unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry is designed to meet WHS regulatory authority requirements for WHS induction and must be achieved before access to any building and construction work site.
Occupation Outcome:
There are no specific job outcomes to this qualification, but the skills achieved will assist in successfully undertaking a Certificate II pre-vocational program or job outcome qualification or will facilitate entry into an Australian Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
There are no stated entry requirements for CPC10120 Certificate I in Construction
Learner Requirements:
- Learners must be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a minimum LLN level mapped to ACSF Level 2 (refer to LLN/ ACSF Chart)
- Hold a valid White Card (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) to be accepted into this course.
- Have access to their own computer/laptop or device fitted with a camera (this will be used to verify identity when undertaking the course online)
- Be physically fit to the level required to complete the practical tasks associated with the course.

To achieve this qualification, learners must demonstrate competency in 11 units of competency comprised of:

Assessment Requirements:
Assessment for this qualification is conducted in accordance with the training package guidelines and industry standards. Students will be assessed through a combination of the following methods:
- Practical demonstrations – showing skills in a simulated or real construction environment
- Written assessments – including short answer questions, case studies, and workbooks
- Oral questioning – to confirm knowledge and understanding
- Projects and assignments – based on realistic workplace scenarios
- Workplace observation – where applicable (e.g. if placement or site visits are used)
Assessments are designed to be:
- Competency-based – students must demonstrate that they can perform to the standard required in the workplace
- Aligned with units of competency – covering both knowledge and performance evidence as per the CPC Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package
All assessment tasks must be:
- Completed in full
- Submitted within specified timeframes
- Conducted under the supervision of a qualified trainer/assessor
